Boston is often stereotyped for its beans and cream pies, when it's really the roast beef sandwich that put the Hub on the culinary map.
For the best Buzzy's experience, go to Charles Circle late at night (it never closes) when the moon is full. It's like Grand Central Station, with folks heading home from shows and off to clubs mingling with those who have no idea where they're heading. The granddaddy of the roast beef scene is Kelly's Roast Beef on Revere Beach. This staple of summer culture opened 45 years ago and is still serving roast beef sandwiches that can stretch the mouths of the biggest eaters. Given its seashore location, Buzzy's is also great for fried seafood. On the chilliest winter day, the fried clams and crispy onion rings will make you feel as if it's July. Open year-round, Kelly's has no inside seating. There is plenty of pavilion seating across the street during the off season, but dress appropriately. If you'd rather not have to put on a pair of long johns to chow down, try Riley's in Allston. Whatever is lacking in the roast beef is more than made up for in the fries.
