Fajitas

MORE INFORMATION
El Phoenix, 1430 Commonwealth Ave., Brighton. 617-566-8974. [Get directions].

While our favorite feature of El Phoenix is that it has a jukebox at every table, its fajitas place a close second. The sizzling slabs of chicken or beef are seasoned and seared just right, then served with enough guacamole and sour cream to reverse any healthful benefits from the fried onions and peppers.

On a Friday night, it's nearly impossible to hear yourself chew, with the nonstop rock and rowdy Dos Equis-soused patrons; but the El Phoenix isn't the kind of place where you linger, unless you've ordered one too many beers to tame the spices.
