Nachos

It's an unusual recommendation, but trust us. The Southern eatery Dixie Kitchen makes a mean plate of nachos. The restaurant injects some Southern hospitality by adding a Cajun kick to the already spicy Tex-Mex delicacy. Keep an extra glass or water within arm's reach - and stick around for the crawfish, jambalaya, and collard greens.

MORE INFORMATION
Dixie Chicken, 182 Mass. Ave., Boston. 617-536-3068. [Restaurant review, get directions].

Fajitas & 'Ritas, 25 West St., Boston, 617-426-1222; 48 Boylston St., Brookline, 617-566-1222. [Get directions].

For more traditional fare, Fajitas & 'Ritas offers a nacho plate you can custom build into a temple of sin. Start with a basic palette of chips and cheese, then add to your heart's content (you pay extra for each ingredient). Steak, chicken, sour cream, chili, refried beans, olives, lettuce, tomatoes - if Fajitas and 'Ritas has it in the kitchen, you can get it on your nachos. The only restriction is that the server has to be able to lift the plate onto your table.
