What brings 'em in: Aside from the friendly atmosphere, the price of some beers hasn't been raised in a decade.

Games: Pool.

Food: Pub fare at modest prices, with burgers the biggest sellers.

Get directions

According to bartender Rich Labbe, the busy times at Martin's Townhouse are from 11 to 2 when the lunch crowd comes in, 3 to 5 when the Big Dig workers arrive, and 5 to 7 when the business crowd gets off. So don't expect to have the bar to yourself. Do expect to find an interesting mix: construction workers in worn Carhartt jackets rubbing elbows with financial analysts in Armani suits.

"It's a neighborhood bar in the city," says Labbe, who claims to know 85 percent of the customers either by name or by drink. "Someone could come in and not know anyone and have a good time."
