Get directions

Michael Tallon, owner of the Kendall Cafe, says this about Kendall Square: "You can eat for $50 or you can eat for $10." The Kendall caters to the $10 crowd. The main entree, however, is live music, and it is served up seven days a week, frequently showcasing five bands a night. The small, efficient space makes the Kendall feel as if it was transplanted from Greenwich Village and the crowd - typically neighborhood folks and Harvard grad student-types - looks the part.

A boon to the business has been the revitalization of the neighborhood. "The movie theater has been a godsend," says Tallon. "My regulars don't want me to advertise" lest things get too crowded. The music dictates the crowd, says bartender Christine Poirier: "We have a folk crowd, a younger crowd, and older crowd."
