Get directions

A Mo Vaughn home run's distance from Fenway Park, the Linwood attracts more than the baseball crowd. It hosts live music three to four nights a week. You could have caught such bands as Morphine, the Bosstones, and Letters to Cleo before they hit it big. Peter Wolf has also been known to drop in for a late-night beer. Along with original rock and punk bands, dance bands attract some of the biggest crowds. "We were the first place in town to play rockabilly," says bartender Dan McGuiggin.

The Linwood dates from the '20s. The worn wooden floors, long bar, and old pictures of Fenway give the place a down-home atmosphere that's part dancehall, part sports bar.

"The baseball crowd we get are the older fans, the season ticket-holders, who know the game," says McGuiggin. "They come in with their kids and the kids come back" for the music.
