American Airlines Flight 11
Mildred Naiman, Of Andover: Lived in an Andover senior-citizens housing complex. She was headed to California to visit her son.
Renee Newell, 37, of Cranston, R.I.: Customer service agent for American Airlines. Newell was traveling with her friend Carol Bouchard to Las Vegas. She leaves a husband and an 8-year-old son. "I've never dreamt that anything like this would ever happen, especially when two girls leave for a mini-vacation," said Ed Lamontaigne, a friend of both families. "They were like two peas in a pod."
Kathleen A. Nicosia, 54, of Winthrop: Flight attendant for more than 30 years. She was born in South Bend, Ind., and grew up in Michigan. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She leaves her husband, George, her daughter, Marianne, her mother, two brothers, and a sister. "May God watch over Kathy, and may she rest in peace in God's hands," said George Nicosia.
Laurie Neira, 49, of Los Angeles: Worked at home for a transcription service. Neira was raised in Boston and was married to Gil for 31 years. They met at Radio City Music Hall. She also leaves two children.
Robert and Jackie Norton, 82 and 60, of Lubec, Maine: Retirees. They were on their way to the wedding of her son, Jason Seymour, in Santa Barbara, Calif. They were both members of the Lubec Congregational Christian Church, where he was a deacon. She was known for her garden, and her sweetpeas filled the church this week.
John Ogonowski, 50, of Dracut: Captain. He was a fourth-generation farm boy who never forgot his roots. He also grew hay, corn, blueberries, and peaches on his family's 150 acres in Dracut, which will be preserved as open space and his legacy, his family said. He and wife, Margaret, have three daughters: Laura, 16; Caroline, 14; and Mary, 11.
Betty Ong, 45, of Andover: Flight attendant. Ong called her airline supervisor before the flight crashed to say she had seen at least three hijackers with weapons and some people had been stabbed. A day before the American flight, Ong made a return flight from San Jose to Boston with her co-worker, Kathy Glauser. "We just sat here and cried," said Glauser's husband, Matt.
Jane Orth, 49, of Haverhill: Retired Lucent Technology employee. She was on her way to Australia to spend a month-long vacation with a friend. She grew up in Haverhill and leaves two daughters, a son, and two grandchildren. "She was the best cook in the world. ... That woman could cook," said her daughter, Elizabeth Orth, 22.
Thomas Pecorelli, 30, of Topanga, Calif.: A graduate of Newburyport High School, he worked as a camerman for Fox Sports. His wife is due to give birth to their first child in April. At a recent family cookout, Pecorelli showed off ultrasound pictures of the new baby. He was the youngest of five children and the only boy.
Berry Berenson Perkins, 53, of Wellfleet: Actress and photographer who belonged to one of the fashion world's most celebrated families. She appeared in such movies as "Cat People," "Winter Kills," and "Remember My Name." She was married to late star Anthony Perkins. She reportedly was flying to Los Angeles to see her younger son perform in concert. She has a second son who also lives in Los Angeles.
Sonia Morales Puopolo, 58, of Dover: Former ballet dancer and prominent arts patron, born in Puerto Rico. She was flying to Los Angeles Tuesday to attend the Latin Grammys awards and to visit her middle son, said her husband, Dominic. "We were like soulmates," he said. She also leaves two other children. She was active in philanthropic circles in Dover, Miami, and Nantucket.
