American Airlines Flight 11
Alexander Filipov, 70, of Concord: Canadian-born electrical engineer. He changed planes at the last minute. He was a deacon at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, and as a young man he helped map the Canadian North. His son, David Filipov, is the Globe's Moscow bureau chief.
Carol Flyzik, 40, of Plaistow, N.H.: Marketing supervisor in Canton office of Medical Information Technology Inc. of Westwood. The former nurse was traveling to Los Angeles on business. She lived in a Victorian house she was remodeling with her 12-year partner, Nancy Walsh, with whom she raised three now-grown children. "In family get-togethers, she's the one who'd try to get everybody ... to do something as a family," said her sister, Linda Pritchard.
Paul J. Friedman, 45, of Belmont: Senior management consultant for Emergence Consulting in Lincoln. An amateur photographer, he also collected antiques and various knickknacks. He leaves behind a wife, Audrey Ades, and son, Richard Harry Hyun Friedman. "My brother was a real mensch," said his sister, Meryl Friedman. "He was a really solid guy."
Karleton D.B. Fyfe, 31, of Brookline: Worked at John Hancock. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Boston University's business school. He leaves his wife, Haven, and a son.
Peter Gay, 54, of Tewksbury: Senior troubleshooter for Lexington-based defense contractor Raytheon Co. He was on his weekly transcontinental commute. Gay was well-known in the area after previously managing Raytheon's big plant in Andover. At Raytheon, he had worked his way through the ranks after starting as a summer intern through Northeastern University's co-op program. Fellow employees recalled Gay as a talented manager with a quick wit and a passion for sports like volleyball. He leaves his wife, Linda, and three children.
Linda George, 27, of Westborough: Buyer with TJX for five years. She was planning to marry a co-worker within the month. They were saving for a house.
Edmund Glazer, 41, of Wellesley: Chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration for MRV Communications, a manufacturer of optical network components and systems. A native of Zambia, he was born to South African parents and came to the United States when he was 17. He leaves his wife, Candy, and son, Nathan.
Lisa Fenn Gordenstein, 41, of Needham: Assistant vice president of merchandise managing for TJX. She and her husband, David, have two young girls. She had a heart "as big as an ocean," said Ted English, TJX president.
Andrew Curry Green, Los Angeles area: Director of Business Development at eLogic and a native of Chelmsford. He was heading back to California after a business meeting in Cambridge.
