954 Q Please state your name, rank, serial number and organization.

A Pfc. Donald E. Dunlap, 35834669, Company "I", 157th Infantry.

(The witness was advised of his rights under the 24th Article of War.)

955 Q What is your assignment?

A BAR man, third platoon, first squad.

956 Q Are you known as, "RED"?

A Yes, sir, that is what they all call me.

957 Q Were you one of the first to reach the fenced-in enclosure in the Dachau Prison Camp?

A No, sir, I was back further searching out some of the barracks and then we went down to the fence after we had all of the buildings searched.

958 Q Were you present or nearby when some Germans were shot along the stockade fence?

A No, sir, I wasn't around there, I was around the other corner of the fence where some inmates were trying to get out.

959 Q At the early part of the taking of the Dachau Concentration Camp did you see Col. Sparks firing his pistol at a German on the ground?

A No, sir, I didn't see Col. Sparks, but I saw another colonel from the 42nd Division. He was firing his pistol.

960 Q What at?

A I didn't see him firing it at anybody, just firing it up in the air. I guess he was trying to scare the prison inmates to keep them from coming out.
