Transportation

Nantucket Island is located 30 miles at sea from Hyannis, Cape Cod. The ferry docks in Hyannis are approximately 270 miles from New York City and 80 miles from Boston. The island, 3 1/2 miles deep and 14 miles wide, has one town, called Nantucket Town. Villages in Nantucket include 'Sconset, Wauwinet, Cisco and Madaket.

How to get to Nantucket
The island is accessible by plane or ferry. You can also bring your car over on the Steamship Authority ferry from Hyannis.

To reach the docks in Hyannis from the south, take route 95 to Providence, RI, then Route 195 to Wareham, to Route 25 over the Bourne Bridge, then follow Route 6 to Exit #6, and take Route 132 into Hyannis. When traeling from the north, take Route 3 to Route 6 over the Sagamore Bridge, then follow Route 132 into Hyannis.

Getting around
Automobiles
If you don't bring your car over on the Steamship Authority ferry from Hyannis you can rent a car. [ Auto rentals ]

Alternative transportation
Bicycles and mopeds are popular means of transportation, and there are paved bike paths leading to all ends of the island. Taxis are available, and the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority shuttle goes from one end of the island to the other.
