Finishing the Big Dig / Photo gallery
Finishing the Big Dig A view of the new Artery from the north in 1955. The bridge carrying the highway over the Charles River is clearly visible, but the upper and lower decks of modern-day I-93 through Charlestown and Somerville had not yet been built. The stub end of the future highway is visible at the base of the Charles River bridge.
