A view of the nearly completed Artery from the Custom House Tower in May 1955. The Artery's many on- and off-ramps, clearly visible in this photo, would contribute to its downfall. The constant exiting and entering of cars slowed traffic on the entire highway. The new underground Artery has just two downtown exit ramps.
