Finishing the Big Dig / Photo gallery
Finishing the Big Dig Looking south at Haymarket Square in 1951, with the Custom House Tower visible in the background. In the months after this photograph was taken, most of the buildings in the middle of the picture would be seized by the government and demolished to clear a path for the Central Artery. The Eastern Massachusetts Motor Bus Terminal, the three-story structure at center, was one of many victims of the wrecking ball.
