Finishing the Big Dig / Photo gallery
Finishing the Big Dig For 50 years, the Central Artery has sliced through the heart of downtown Boston, cutting the city off from its waterfront, isolating the North End, and bringing pollution and noise. As the Big Dig prepares to permanently remove this scar from the Boston landscape, it seems appropriate to look back at the highway's birth.
