Boston signs Andreychuk to one-year contract

Associated Press, 07/28/99

BOSTON - The Bruins signed veteran left winger Dave Andreychuk to a one-year deal Wednesday.

Andreychuk, 35, played the last three seasons for the New Jersey Devils. In 52 games last season, he scored 15 goals and 13 assists.

The Bruins did not reveal terms of the deal, but The Canadian Press reported it was worth $1.2 million.

His season was cut short by a bruised sternum and fractured right ankle, but he did manage to record his 600th assist, making him just the 49th player in league history to reach that milestone.

The 17-year veteran has scored 20-plus goals in a season 14 times, and is 20th in NHL history with 532 career goals.

"We have been looking to add some offensive depth to our lineup and Dave is a proven NHL goal scorer, particularly on the power play,'' said Bruins Assistant General Manager Mike O'Connell.

The 6-foot-4, 220 pound Andreychuk was drafted by Buffalo in 1982 as the 16th pick overall. He was dealt to Toronto during the 1992-1993 season, and then traded to New Jersey in 1996.
