THE SHOOTING OF MARTIN LUTHER KING
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968 while visiting Memphis to help sanitation workers win better wages.

Across the street from the far right window of the upstairs bathroom of a rooming house, James Earl Ray took aim.

Investigators say a single bullet was fired across Mulberry Street, hitting King in the jaw. The bullet also traveled through King's neck and torso. James Earl Ray was apprehended in London, and in 1969 was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
