Martin Luther King Jr. carried the civil rights crusade to many different parts of the United States in the 1950s and 1960s.
In all, King traveled more than 6 million miles. He spoke publicly on more than 2,500 occasions about social and racial issues. He was arrested more than 20 times and assaulted four times.
Today, many of the places important to the life story of Martin Luther King are sites dedicated to his memory and to educating new generations about the struggle for civil rights.
