Finishing the Big Dig / Photo gallery
Finishing the Big Dig The solution was provided by world-renowned Swiss bridge architect Christian Menn, who proposed a 10-lane cable-stayed bridge with 30-story towers whose design evoked an existing Boston landmark, the Bunker Hill Monument. Big Dig planners fell in love with the design and, as the bridge rose above the skyline, so have many Bostonians. It was dubbed the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge in honor of late Boston civil rights activist Leonard Zakim.
