Friends said that she had a keen sense of style, something that came in handy at The Gap in Warwick Mall, where she worked for a year and a half.

"She would take a basic pair of jeans and recreate them," said her district manager, Karen McNeilly. "The Gap is, you know, generally more basic. She was cutting edge. She'd add her own style to everything."

Hoogasian carried her wedding pictures with her at all times, McNeilly said. In part, it was to show off her husband, 31-year-old Michael Hoogasian, who also died in last week's fire at The Station. Michael Hoogasian worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Providence and was known for his commitment to the gym and for greeting everyone with a handshake and a smile.

Sandy Hoogasian also carried the wedding photo to show off her wedding dress, a gown she designed and made herself.

"It was a phenomenal wedding," McNeilly said. "She paid attention to every detail. The dress was beautiful."

The Rev. James Collins of St. Matthew Church in Cranston married the couple in October 2001. Michael Hoogasian had been a parishioner of the church.

"They were madly in love," he said. "They were friends and became lovers and wanted an everlasting relationship. This is a sad occasion."

Sandy and Michael Hoogasian went to the Great White show after running into the band's lead singer at a local tattoo parlor. The bandleader gave them free tickets.

Collins said that both families have been consoled by the thought of Michael and Sandy Hoogasian continuing their relationship. Collins performed the couple's funeral service yesterday at St. Matthew's.

"I think for them, these two were meant to be together," Collins said. "As one person from their family responded, `At least they'll stay together."'
