Andrea Louise Mancini

Johnston, R.I.

Andrea Mancini, 28, couldn't do enough for her family. Before she married and moved out of her parents' house, she drove her nephew Eddie and her niece Lauren to school every day. For five years.

At first, it was a way to help her older sister, Michele Pistocco, who had taken a teaching job that began before her children's classes did. Eventually, it was something that the kids, and Mancini, looked forward to every day.

"She was like a second mother to them," Pistocco recalled. "Finally I had to tell her to stop."

The rides to school may have stopped when she married Steve Mancini on Nov. 11, 2001, but her devotion to her family didn't. Her husband, who was at The Station with her on Thursday, was an only child, so she wove him into her large extended family.

Mancini was the ninth of 11 Jacavone kids in Johnston, and learned to hold her own, with hard work, loyalty, and a willingness to share her opinions.

Mancini and her husband worked part-time at The Station. Steve would check IDs, and Andrea would collect cash. The night was a big night for the couple; her husband's band, Fathead, played before Great White. Steve is listed as missing.
