Andrew Letherby Country: Australia Age: 30 Personal best: 2:12:45 (Fukuoka International Marathon, 2003) Letherby is a man on a mission toward Athens, and comes to Boston determined to run under the 2:12 Australian Olympic marathon standard. To do so, he'll need to run faster than he has in his life. A 1998 graduate of Georgia State University with a degree in exercise science, Letherby won the Penn Relays 10,000m that year, placed fourth in the Australian Olympic Trials 10,000 in 2000, and in 2002 won a bronze medal in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games. Letherby started running as a youngster after his mother, Desiree, took up the sport at the age of 32 and went on to compete for Australia from 1981-1985, including the 1981 World Cross Country Championships and the 1985 World Cup Marathon.
