Excerpt from New Hampshire attorney general's report on Father Gerald R. Chalifour March 3, 2003 Beginning in the summer of 1969, the Rev. Gerald R. Chalifour repeatedly molested a 16-year-old boy from his parish, St. Kathryn's in Hudson, N.H. The boy confessed the incidents to his mother and she brought Chalifour's behavior to the attention of another priest, who offered little sympathy. The abuse was reported to the parish council and then to a bishop of the diocese. Chalifour was removed from St. Kathryn's, and subsequently filled in at various other parishes before being permanently reassigned to St. Peter's in Farmington. The diocese took no steps to have Chalifour psychologically evaluated and no restrictions were placed on him. Chalifour went on to abuse more youths at his later posts, including at St. Theresa's in Manchester. The following pages are taken from the Report on the Investigation of the Diocese of Manchester, issued by the New Hampshire attorney general's office on March 3, 2003.
