Question: Given the current economic climate, what are your priorities for the budget surplus and why?

Answer: Presently the Congressional Budget Office and the General Accounting Office are predicting that the federal budget surplus is $1.8 trillion dollars. Career politicians are scrambling to take credit for the surplus, stating that it could have happened only with their bold and courageous tax increases on the middle class.

Democrats want to spend the entire surplus and then spend some more. Republicans want to give a small tax break to the wealthy and spend the rest of the surplus. Only Libertarians believe in fiscal discipline in Washington, and only a vote for Libertarian candidates will bring smaller government.

The truth, a concept that is anathema to career politicians, is that Washington did everything in its power to suppress innovation in this country, and they still failed. The truth is that despite every obstacle thrown in their paths by politicians, the individuals of this great country still strive for success. The truth is that the Internet Revolution created such an economic boom in the United States that the Democrats and the Republicans were spared the ignobility of driving this nation into yet another deep recession.

In truth, the budget surplus simply means that Congress passed a budget and then took in more tax dollars from American workers than it needed. Republicans and Democrats are scrambling to spend the surplus on their favorite programs, but only Libertarians will provide fiscal discipline in Washington and make dramatic tax cuts and spending cuts. I am a Libertarian, and I ask for your vote.
