To give goods
The Salvation Army in Massachusetts will be collecting the following items, requested by its New York affiliate, through 4 p.m. today (and longer, for gathering efforts that were already under way), because its warehouses from here to New York are full:
- Heavy-duty work boots
- Asbestos-grade masks
- Bottled water
- Canned tuna/meats
- Eyedrops
- Gatorade
- Peanut butter and jelly
- New adult clothing (particularly jeans, shirts, underwear and socks, for use by volunteers)
- Generators
- Flashlights
- Coffee
- Work globes
- Garbage cans
- Hand trucks
These items may be dropped off at any of The Salvation Army's 83 locations statewide, which are listed at www.salvationarmy-ma.org. The charity will still be collecting monetary donations.
To give services
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (800-293-4031) and the Massachusetts Medical Society (www.massmed.org are maintaining lists of volunteers, but MEMA is discouraging callers from going to New York.
