On Wednesday, April 9, coalition forces poured into Baghdad from multiple directions as Saddam Hussein's regime crumbled, leaving only pockets of Fedayeen and Republican Guard militia resistance defending the city.
Soldiers from the US Army's Third Infantry Division held up a ripped portrait of Hussein as they roared through the capital. The liberation of Baghdad had begun.
