Vintage wattageBy Diane DanielSusan Schneider, owner of Shandell's, a vintage-inspired home accessory business in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, had this chandelier design reproduced from a 1920s model she has owned for years. Made of hand-wrought steel, the chandeliers are welded by an artist in Texas and detailed in a Portsmouth studio. The one shown, priced at $950, is in antique white; custom colors and finishes are available. Schneider, who designs all the products at Shandell's - including mirrors, frames, and pillows - also makes lampshades for the chandeliers ($150 and up for a set of four) using vintage fabrics and wallpaper. Shandell's is at 69 Albany Street, Portsmouth; phone 888-701-8696 or 603-436-8077, or visit www.shandells.com. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and by appointment. |
