In an 1987 interview with David Frost, Jackson expressed
his respect for the former Soviet leader, describing him as "very astute"
and "well-versed academically and experientially." Jackson first met Gorbachev
at the superpower summit at Geneva in 1985. Jackson went to the summit
to make an appeal on behalf of Soviet Jewry.
